a British made alarm pistol, caliber .50
flintlock smoothbore, 3" round barrel, on the butt strap is a holder with screw
to attach to a board, under the barrel is a provision on can connect with a
string. If somebody tripped the wire it will fire a shot, with a typical British
push safety and ramrod on the right side, plain black grips. It functions fine.
Interestingly, the head for the flintlock is loose
◄ and can be attached to the hammer, please see
picture to the left, stud on hammer, matching hole in flint holder..
Rare
pistol in good condition sold
flintlock trap gun or as Lewis Winant in Firearms Curiosa
calls it "Unpopular, that is with the intended victims, poachers, and grave
robbers." Around 1800 a very common device to stop thieves, which was forbidden
in 1827.
