HANQUET BRÉVETÉ
inscribed on top and on the left side of the 5⅞"
octagonal barrel with dovetail front- and rear sight of a transition revolver.
The revolver started as a 1840's pepperbox. In the 1850's (Baker's patent 1852)
the barrel cluster was shortened and a barrel with a frame-extension was added.
Proof is cylinder has proper British proof stamps, the frame and hammer are
nicely engraved - the barrel and cylinder are plain. The metal was as
common in the time kept in the white, the grip with a cap box in the butt is
crisp. For this type of revolver not common caliber .45; most are smaller in .36
and .38. The revolver shows minor dings, but otherwise in very good condition
and good working order.
The tag on the trigger guard shows it is from the Martin B. Rettig collection.
